Drs. Shing-Chiu Wong & Geoffrey Bergman discuss the PARTNER clinical trial. PARTNER is an acronym for "Placement of Aortic Transcatheter Valve." This large, multi-center trial examines the effectiveness of the Edwards SAPIEN Transcatheter Heart Valve - a value used by surgeons to treat aortic stenosis.

Left Ventricular Assist Device (LVAD) - Evelyn Horn, MD (January 12, 2010)
Dr. Evelyn Horn, Director of Heart Failure and Pulmonary Hypertension at the Perkin Heart Failure Center of NewYork-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medical Center in New York City, discusses Left Ventricular Assist Devices (LVAD). LVAD's are implantable devices that help the heart to pump in patients with end-stage heart failure. They are sometimes used as a "bridge" while patients wait for a heart transplant or recover from cardiac incidents. More recently, LVAD's are also being used as a permanent method to help the heart function. This video with Dr. Horn is from a webcast at the Ronald O. Perelman Heart Institute at NewYork-Presbyterian.
Angioplasty - Geoffrey Bergman, MD (January 13, 2010)
Dr. Geoffrey W. Bergman, an Associate Attending Physician specializing in diagnostic and interventional therapeutic cardiac procedures at NewYork-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medical Center in New York City, discusses using angioplasty to repair the heart's left main ventricle. With the procedure, physicians insert a catheter into a patient's main artery (typically, in the groin) and navigate it toward the heart. Once there, they deploy and inflate a balloon, which widens the vessel narrowed by coronary artery disease, and install a stent to keep it open. The procedure is seen as a less invasive alternative to bypass surgery, where surgeons need to make incisions and open a patient's chest. This video with Dr. Bergman is from a webcast at the Ronald O. Perelman Heart Institute at NewYork-Presbyterian.
Peripheral Artery Disease - Dmitriy Feldman, MD (May 2, 2012)
Dmitriy N. Feldman, M.D., an interventional cardiologist at NewYork-Presbyterian talks about treating peripheral artery disease (hardening of the arteries that occurs outside of the heart).
Patient Care at NYP Weill Cornell
For Dr. Shing-Chui Wong, an interventional cardiologist, working at NewYork-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medical Center gives him the opportunity to see and treat a diverse group of patients and disease pathways.
