Cardiac Catheterization and Interventional Cardiology

Cardiac catheterizationis a minimally invasive procedure used to detect the presence of heart disease. A catheter is inserted into the groin or wrist and advanced to the heart. Dye is injected to identify any blockages in the heart. (This procedure is called an “angiogram.”) If a blockage is detected, it can be opened through a procedure called “angioplasty” or “stent implantation.”
